Appearing on a TV show on a discussion regarding the petition filed against social networking sites for hosting content offensive to religious sensibilities, Mr. Prasanth Sugathan, Counsel at SFLC.in explained that the "Intermediaries are platforms like Google and Facebook. The law provides them a protection, since they are only providing a platform. Any user can post content there. They are not held liable for the content posted there,and also Article 19 (1A) of the Indian constitution, provides you freedom of speech and expression, that can be curtailed only by provisions under Article 19 (2). However the new rules go quite beyond what can be done as per the constitution.
