SFLC.in partnered with the Indian Journal of Law and Technology (IJLT) to organise an essay competition in the month of April, 2013. The topics for the essay competition were:

  • Intellectual Property : Software Patent Litigation- A Waste of Time And Money

  • Internet Governance : Network Neutrality - Can The Competition Law In India Ensure A Level Playing Field?

  • Openness & Accessibility : Government Support For Open Source & Open Access - Need For A Legal Framework To Ensure Access To Knowledge

  • Privacy : 'If You’re Not Paying For It, You Are The Product Being Sold’ - Privacy Issues On The Internet

A total of 33 entries were received from 22 colleges spanning across India.

Ms. Aradhya Sethia from NLSIU, Bangalore, Mr. Danish from NUALS, Kochi and Mr. Vaibhav Parikh from Gujarat National law Unviersity won the first, second and third prizes respectively.

The competition also featured a special ‘Best First Year Student Submission’ award, including a cash prize, to encourage young students to think about these issues and engage in academic writing on these subjects. This award was given to Atharva Samir Sontakke from Gujarat National Law University.

Cash prizes worth Rs. 27,000 were distributed to the winning participants.
